This service is often late leaving PZ, tonight it was 4 mins.
Can anybody tell me what causes the delay please?

Can't say for definite, but I suspect "passengers still arriving". It's no problem as there is so long added to the schedule to avoid turfing people out at Paddington at silly o'clock the following morning.

If you really worry about 4 minutes then perhaps you should be asking yourself why ? !!!
Many customers from PZ are regulars so if one is late, we can afford the luxury of waiting ye olde fashioned customer service style thanks to the relaxed signalling pathing at least as far as Plymouth. Many customers are on first name terms with the on board staff...... . That's Cornwall for you.
I defiantly know tonights train was prepared by 1615.... As usual !

Thanks for your replies. I was wondering why the delays. last nights delay happened to be 4 mins, hence my quote. That said, waiting at Par, Bodmin Parkway or Liskeard for a delayed sleeper can be a cold experience particularly as we move into winter.

I was going to say waiting at other stations along the line might not be so nice. I was going to quote Hayle, but it doesn't stop in the up direction-why not? Often wondered this! And why not Par on a Sunday night? I get not Taunton, as this allows a Sunday night diversion, but Hayle and Par are both passed anyway, and both served in the other direction.

Hayle is curious anyway, a number of holiday parks there, and not all trains stop. when I was last there, the taxi drive took us to St Erth (as the train didn't stop at Hayle) and he said they have lots of business taking people to St Erth for the trains, so there is clearly a demand, but people have to taxi it at present! Obviously he wasn't complaining though, as good for his business.
