I think they would be able to determine someone who is a heavy drinker, the doc told me the tests would show if I had taken any paracetamol in the previous 14 days.

They aren’t looking for teetotal applicants, but if someone was clearly over consuming I think they may get overlooked or advised to reduce their consumption.

Waiting for the medical is horrible, I worried about my weight and bmi, no matter how many people told me I would be ok, it still irked me. The fact that I’m fit wasn’t registering with me

Sure you’ll be fine. Just don’t lie when they ask about wether you drink or not. I blew 0%, and confirmed I’m an irregular drinker so my pee sample has to back that up.

Cheers, I know you’ve said before but I lose track haha. Strange how some TOCs use a breathalyser too? I assume they still check for alcohol as part of the urine sample?

No probs stiggy, I’ve jumped onto a post that’s for another toc. Like you I can’t keep track of who what where and when lol

For the benefit of a recruitment Medical I’m not sure of the benefit of a breathalyser test? Checking urine would give a clearer picture of one’s drinking habits, whereas a breath test would only demonstrate that somebody hasn’t basically turned up for a Medical after having a few beers.

I can see the benefit of using one as part of random alcohol screening, as it’ll show instantly whether a member of staff is ‘over the limit’.

Generally it depends on the lab’s workload, however I was told it was a 24hr turnaround with GWR, only increased because mine was on the Thursday before the Easter weekend. I wasn’t told I’d passed, just received a formal offer of a job. All TOCs naturally vary though. Everything other than the D&A results will be related to you on the day.

Yeah when I left the doc said that I was good to go, or fit for the job etc.

But had to wait for drugs etc. I Harley this waiting lark lol
