Hi Everyone,

I had an Interview with GWR for a Revenue Protection Role and I was told I was going to know either or by the end of the week being Friday my interview was Tuesday and they were interviewing on Wednesday as well. He took my phone number and says I call those who are successful and have a job offer and if I wasn’t I would get a rejection email. I have heard absolutely nothing. Should I be concerned.

In a nutshell, no. Railway recruitment can be incredibly slow, even for successful candidates. Deadlines regularly missed. So for now, no news is good news.

Not the same company, but I re- interviewed with SWR for commercial guard last Thursday and was told seven to ten days. Another member of this forum had his the Tuesday after and got the call telling him he was successful the day after. I'd heard nothing for a week and thought I'd performed really badly so was waiting for a call to say I'd failed. Got a call to say I was successful this morning and I'm over the moon, so yeah I echo what Horizon 22 says and I think it depends on how many applications HR are handling, what depot, and its needs, and when they want you to start. Hold tight and good luck

In addition to what @Fratton Guard? mentions above, most recruitment teams are in very small numbers and are frankly rather overstretched in addition to being reliant on info from the hiring manager. So all these things take longer than anyone would reasonably expect.

My experience with GWR is not great so far tbh. Admittedly mine is for a trainee driver role but I had an online interview last September. I was told I would hear either way within 7 days….. After a couple of weeks I emailed and got no reply, I waited another couple of weeks and still nothing. I eventually got a reply telling me that my portal will have the information but there was no change from prior to the interview. I chased again and was told that HR would be in touch soon, this was in January. I’ve still not heard if I’ve passed or failed that interview.

I’m hoping I’m in some sort of talent pool and will get a call at some point when I’m least expecting it. In the meantime I have other applications ongoing and am in a talent pool for GTR.
Certainly give them a call/email every few weeks until you get a response…you’ve prompted me to drop them another line so thank you!

I found the GWR interview process very good. Interviewed at lunch time and email on outcome by dinner time.

My outcome email did come from one of the HR business partners shown as the panel on the careers portal so perhaps check your junk/spam for those names.

Fingers crossed for you.

What role did you go for? I was told I would here either or by the end of this week being the Friday just gone. So I think I will wait a few more days yet.

Train Conductor
I’m looking at a Train Conductor role at the moment with another company. I currently have lots of customer service background working in high end department stores in London and currently am an Assistant Spa and Concierge Manager at a 5 star hotel where safety and security is critical in this role. Is this what they are looking for?

In my interview they told me the depot I was applying for was extremely diverse and the team came from a lot of different backgrounds. Quite a bit from retail by the sounds of it.

My background is hotel and sports centre management (also done retail a long time ago) and I got in so you should be fine.

Just remember safety 1st, followed by customer service and performance after.

In my field of work, not hearing either a positive or negative outcome within 2 days invariably means you are a reserve candidate - waiting for the first choice to accept, before notifying the rejection. But I am not sure if this is transferrable to your work situation.
