Hello,

I read on the forums that GWR still should be running HST's between Penzance and Cardiff via Patchway...? Are all connections strictly HST's, and if not, is there a way to find out whether the 08:52 from Exeter towards Cardiff is? I'd love to ride them before they go.

Thanks ^^
Daniel

Not all, most are now 80x. There are only three HST diagrams now.

The 0852 from Exeter is booked an 80x IET.

No, it is not strictly HST-operated. 800 and 802 units also operate.

The 08.52 seems to have been an 80x all last week. The 13.53, 15.53, and 19.50 are the only ones I can find that seems to have reliably an HST last week, though of course that won't necessarily ring true all weeks.

Well and where do you get the information? I'd love to catch one :)
Realtimetrains should be fairly accurate for what is a Castle HST and what is an Class 80x IET.

Alternatively try joining the HST forum for regular diagram and allocation updates.

Wow, that's much more details than I was hoping for

Is there a place where a HST is absolutely guaranteed then? Some websites claim EMR still operate them on some IC but I doubt that's the case and Scotland is too far for my short stay. CrossCountry seems plausible but then again it looks VERY limited...

EMR finished last year and XC finished last month.

Outside a railtour the only place will be in Scotland on some of the InterCity services between Glasgow/Edinburgh+ Aberdeen/Inverness. Plus those limited GWR services

Don't think any services are guaranteed HST now. Scotrail is a lottery if its a DMU or HST.

Purely from coincidental travels I’ve had in Cornwall and Scotland the last few days, I’ve unintentionally travelled on both Scotrail and GWR HSTs. I can confirm the 1101 from Aberdeen to Edinburgh was a HST on Friday and the 1148 from St Erth to Plymouth today were both HSTs. Booked or random, I don’t know. But hopefully that helps someone.
