Hi, I am looking for any information on being a driver for GWR at Exeter.

What sort of routes do you work?, traction?, annual leave allowance? etc etc
Do you have a High speed link and a separate local link?
Any help will be great.

Darren

Hi im Plymouth, but I can give you an idea,....
Yes, separate west (local) and high speed (HSS) side, if you are applying for a job it would be on the west / local side.
There are several links, the bottom link does I think Paignton, Barnstaple, Exmouth and the depot, next link up add Plymouth to that and Bristol (?), then the top two links are divided east or west, east go as far as Cardiff and west to Penzance.

If you want to transfer to high speed, they go London via westbury and Bristol, incl all diversions, Exmouth, Paignton, and penzance.

Traction wise, on the local side is 143, 153, 150, and after a time you would do 158s too. On high speed its HSTs and 57s.

Good luck.

Cheers irish_rail. Sounds like a good depot with varied work. How does it compare to Plymouth?

Well the difference at Plymouth is we do everything, no separate WEST side, so one day we will say go London, the next day perhaps a sprinter on the gunnislake....

Ok that sounds good. I am a current driver with 15 years experience of driving HST`s out of London and i am looking at moving to Devon or Cornwall. I would love to work driving over the branch lines but do not want to give up the HST work......My application has been sent in to the GWR "talent pool" so will wait and see............... Planning a fact finding mission down to Devon as soon as time allows so will have to find a few nice hostelries as well. Thanks for your help. Darren
