I never understand why all these businesses never tell Royal Mail about their mail issues. They all seem to moan about post taking a long time, but when asked when something was posted they don't know, so how do they know it is taking a long time?

If they can use the website they can pick up tickets from a machine. It's hardly difficult just put your card in and type in the code1

What if a relative does the purchasing for them and they have to go themselves for the ticket? Yes not difficult, but some people of certain generations just like having paper in their hand before they travel. For a quid I don't think it will end the world and shows a little bit of concession to older people's needs.

Obviously I'd also make postage free for disabled railcard holders too.

Isn't that discriminatory against younger people?

In that case, isn't any benefit for older people 'discriminatory' against younger people?

I'm pretty sure most young people don't actually know what to do if they receive a letter (I'm 33, so not that young, and I certainly get annoyed if I have to send/receive anything commerical by post, and I grew up without the internet age)

The franking marks and postmarks carry the date of sending, plus on one occasion recently we told them at the time when we posted something to them - it arrived four weeks later... Four weeks!

The business in question does moan about it, but just gets brushed off.

Despite the negativity about our postal service, I find that train tickets booked online arrive almost immediately every time.

EG; Book ticket online Wednesday. Arrive through letter box Friday.

Postmarks are the date it entered the postal system. Franking marks are done by the sender, and are not necessarily the posting date.
If an item of mail is delayed you can claim from Royal Mail, so anyone who doesn't claim is a fool to themselves!

That said we post hundreds of items a day at work, all of which arrive, all over the country, within two days.
