No, I was referring to the main line. I was talking about the original IEP transition plan when May 2018 was the date given by the DfT for assuming Swansea switch on.

The fact the Swansea delay meant that 21 then electric sets (18 then for traffic) would have to be parked up as there was effectively no work for them in the current GWR timetable structure was a big factor in getting the bi-modalisation through.

Quite how much electrified route there will actually be west of Didcot by May 2018 is currently the subject of much debate!

That's a new twist for Rolls Royce at Goodwood to be responsible for maintenance of MTU's IEP engines.
It also increases the UK content of the IEP contract.
Are RR at all involved currently in HST engine maintenance or any other UK rail application?

It's déja vue with many first generation DMU types having been RR-engined!

Note that the current Rolls Royce motor company is entirely unrelated to the pre-2003 company—the only thing in common being the Rolls Royce name and some related trademarks, such as the grills.

Original Rolls Royce Split in 1973 in to a car company and an aviation company.

Rolls Royce the car company split in 1997 with the design and plant going to Volkswagen and the brand to BMW and has HQ at Goodward.
Rolls Royce the aero/ship/train engine manufacturer has a HQ in Westminster is a successor to the original and owns MTU.

Looking in to Class 43 engine maintenance the heavy lifting and assembling/disassembling of engines is done in Derby while the individual parts are sent to Germany for refurbishment.

MTU Engines UK are actually based in East Grinstead, West Sussex I believe, not Goodwood.

and it;s the 'aviation ' ( and nuclear and other turbomachinery etc) comopany that owns the name , logos etc etc ...

Rolls Royce motors (the car bit) sold its diesel engine division to Perkins in 1984. This had been based in Shrewsbury. I imagine the Perkins engines in the 165s etc owed much to the acquired RR business.

Perkins is now based in Peterborough and are part of Caterpillar.

Today 5X70 0504 North Pole IEP Depot to Stoke Gifford ran, operated by 800101.
As well as 5X80 0327 North Pole IEP Depot to Merchant Park Sidings, operated by 800001. (Not sure if 800002 was involved as well).

Rumour is that a class 800 is heading "onto new territory" next week, I'll say no more until I know for sure!

I would imagine that testing of facilities at Penzance, Bristol and Cardiff for stabling would need to be done in some aspect.

I thought Class 800s will be stabled at Swansea rather than Cardiff. Facilities at Swansea have already been completed.

Tonight's 5X80 from Stoke Gifford IEP Depot to North Pole IEP Depot, scheduled to be operated by 800101, has been cancelled tonight. Reason: OU.

This is unusual, as 800001 returned to base from Merchant Park this morning so was expecting 800101 to do the same.

Network Rail are warning of strong winds in the Dawlish area ( and consequent disruptions to Cross-Country). Will this train actually run? If it does, it will certainly test the AT300's suitability for the route.

The disruptions likely will be Voyagers not being allowed through Dawlish
