I know it may be a bit up in the air, but I did read that from 25th June 1G11 Paddington to Cheltenham will be a 800. Would this be a 800 or a 802? Given it leaves at about 07:45 would this be a 5 car, 9 or 10?

Any guesses?
It's likely to be an 800/3 (i.e. a 9-car).

Quite excited for Gloucester to be seeing the 800 that’s a nine car, and with the platform extensions at Stonehouse Stroud and Kemble finished. Seems like a long time since this program started.

Stonehouse isn't finished yet, there is still a big hole where the footbridge used to be. Not seen any work at Stroud yet, so they will have to get a move on.

I am glad we will be seeing the 9 carriage versions after all.

Are all those flat wagons just in the formation for brake force?

Regarding the short formed GWR trains, i.e. 5 vice 10, when an HST is short formed by one carriage it's hardly a cause for any great concern, but when half the train is missing then it is and noticeable.

Due to the GWML works over the Bank Holiday weekend, the 800’s were running from Maidenhead (as they’re not cleared to Marylebone).
The trains were running on diesel all the way due to a software issue with the generic headcodes supplied for the shortened journeys (Maidenhead start/finish, rather than Paddington), which didn’t allow for the driver to pan up as an inbuilt safety mechanism.

The OHLE was off at Maidenhead.

Head codes have absolutely no bearing on whether a 800 runs on diesel or overheads.

There was seemingly the above issue with the software; the train threw the equivalent of a "hissy fit" when they tried to put it on the overheads, as the system didn't recognise the headcode.

I repeat, the head codes have no bearing on running on diesel or OHLE. It can run with the correct head code, a generic head code or no head code at all and that has no effect on the traction system.

So where did the "hissy fit" take place? Presumably if the OLE.was isolated at Maidenhead, only Reading to the Didcot area would have been available on electric anyway.

As far as I remember them saying, the driver inputted the generic head code at Maidenhead and there was an issue with the safety system and electric operation, otherwise the train would have used it until Didcot Parkway.
I thought that the OLE was isolated at Maidenhead East, but it must've been further west, meaning that the train wouldn't have been able to pan up until its next stop, which was Reading, ergo the aforementioned issue.

Yes, 1C25 'The Bristolian' 18:00 from Padd to Temple Meads was '5 vice 10' tonight and, as a peak service, was a tad cosy as a result!

It still had nothing to do with the headcode.......

More noticeable than a totally missing train (in the event of a power car failure)?

Pretty sure 800001 was at Stoke Gifford yesterday, 800302 was on test

Hi everybody and greetings from Italy!!
Please, forgive my "rusty" English.

I've been following the IET's deeds from the beginning and there's something that still escapes me.

According to Hitachi's own literature (1), inner frame bogies allow a weight saving of 2.5 tons per bogie (that's 5 tons per car...), they boast also a considerable smaller footprint, allowing the fitment of skirtings/fairings very useful (reduced noise and aerodynamic resistance) to a stock designed for speeds up to 140.
They could also give a non negligible contribution (minus 10 tons) to the "power-to-weight ratio-in-Diesel-mode" issue that's keeping so many people concerned...
Most of early sketches/rendering seemed to suggest they were going to be fitted in the front carriages of every IET but when the first 800's hit the rail, they weren't there....
Why?

I hope I made myself clear enough and accept my apologies if the question was answered before.

Did a day out Tues 8th May, from Paddington-Worcester Foregate street rtn, out 11.22am, back 13.55pm, on 800 026,and the performance to me seemed pretty decent, so am wandering if they are using full 940hp mode, and is performance now close to or same as a HST? We seemed to be going well and having no problem keeping station to station timings.

Just booked the 1203 Royal Duchy from Paddington to St Ives for the 27th September and First Advance has put us in Coach D seats 21 and 22, which are only first class for class 800s or 802s or whatever. Assume this means it **should** be an IET thingy as opposed to a HST? Do the IET thingys have Pullman dining on as that was the whole point of the trip?
