Oh ok. Thank you.I believe it's because the 3-car Turbos are A, B and C, so whenever they're coupled up no coach letter is repeated. Not sure what happens when 2x 2-cars are coupled up though.
In theory it was bought in for when the plan was to use 166+165 on Cardiff Portsmouth, along with seat reservations (the holders were installed). But the impracticalities of that never happened and thankfully the Turbos will largely be replaced by doubled up 158s on the route again.I believe it's because the 3-car Turbos are A, B and C, so whenever they're coupled up no coach letter is repeated. To identify the location of specific facilities - cycle and additional luggage spaces, as is the case with the GWR 165s for one. Disabled spaces being another.I can't really see why a train that doesn't have reservations needs coach letters anyway. And as far as I know all operators have abandoned the old paper ticket reservations so only the trains with on-board displays will offer them. These displays also allow the coach letters to be varied service by service.
Most new-ish trains have these now, except from a few anomalies like the desiros.I can't really see why a train that doesn't have reservations needs coach letters anyway. Agreed, passengers need to know where certain facilities are.To identify the location of specific facilities - cycle and additional luggage spaces, as is the case with the GWR 165s for one. Disabled spaces being another.
