Hi. Anybody aware of what the remaining 153's at GWR now regularly work. Are they confined to the Looe, Newquay and Falmouth branches or do they still get all over the South West?
They do not do the Cornish Branches now but work regularly on the Devon Metro usually strengthening a 2 Car and sometimes as pairs or even 3 on a Saturday. They have a job to Cardiff with a 2 Car 158 and go to Penzance at weekends as well as Plymouth Mon-Fri. Also Bristol but on an ad hoc basis covering for shortages.
A 153 ran between Bristol and Warminster and return, then back to Westbury at peak time one day during the Filton bank blockade. I also travelled on both 150/1 twins today too despite not seeing them for weeks!
I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an occasional need to take 153s to St Philips Marsh, for tyre turning etc. This will be managed ad-hoc by GWR Control, much the way the odd 143 makes it to Bristol occasionally.
