Just a short review of one of my regular trips to the Highlands, uneventful with Caledonian Sleeper on late Jan 2024.
Finished up work and caught a 9-car GWR service originating from Bristol just after 1800. Glad it turned out to be a 9-car as busier than expected for a Thursday evening and when looking before work was originally slated to be a 5 car. It would be a GWR journey without a slight and expected delay arriving 7 minutes late. Cheerful crew and catering trolley present.
Off on the Hammersmith and City line, with a 9 minute wait before it arrived in Euston, feels like the frequency has been cut. Arrived 8.40p.m. After stopping to pick up essentials at the Stations supermarkets. Straight onto Platform 1 at Euston, warm welcome as usual at the gate, with Aberdeen being near the rear of the set.
No wait it pick up key card, warm welcome given and seamless check-in. Makes me grateful for this compared to a couple of journeys on the Night Riviera where I think their cabin check in could be improved, hunting for a host in paddington can be challenging.
Into a clean classic cabin with both berths nicely made up and ample running water. Two bottles of water present and morning coffee card was placed out. Good duvet and two pillows per bunk.
Smooth ride tonight with a on-time departure at 2115, and coffee (plus customary CS oat bar) promptly delivered at 0657, which was warmly received. Good train managers on both, interesting as full announcements given which seem well rehearsed and well scripted, something which I don't see often in the UK rail network.
Smooth on time arrival at 0741 into Aberdeen. After breakfast, having had a good night's sleep.
After meeting some friends in Aberdeen and having expected a two car train to be typical to Inverness, was pleasantly surprised to get a 5 car HST for this on-time journey, with full catering.
All round a pleasant journey,my thanks to the CS, GWR and ScotRail teams. As take this journey often, would be interested to know any tips on paid showers in Aberdeen.
I travel at least once or twice a month on CS (normally uneventfully) so will try and post further trip reports in the future.
