I recieved an email from gwr to say that I now have the option of automatically receiving delay repay if I am entitled to it from a delay. Apparently the info will be taken from my touch in and outs on my smart card.

Not sure how it will work in practice as will only work if you pass a Gateline to board a train that is then delayed.

This is referring to when you use your smartcard with their new PAYG system in the Bristol area. By definition you must always tap in and tap out, so it will always know when you started and finished your journey.
As to whether it will work, the system has always tried to work out what trains and routing you took, but in my experience it is not very good at it. It will probably work quite well in areas like the Severn Beach line, where frequencies are fairly low, but will struggle with journeys such as Bristol to Bath, or if you take an odd route, for example a double back at some point, which as far as we can tell is not disallowed by the scheme, and can be a noticeable benefit of using it.
