Routes plymouth to penzance, plus gunnislake , looe , newquay, falmouth and st Ives (I think)
2 + 4 HSTs and 150, 158s. I expect 80x will be signed at some point.
No shortage of drivers just continuing recruitment by GWR for south west depots due to additional services and a fair number of drivers approaching retirement.
Lovely area around Par, though I'm no expert on that part of Cornwall.
Good depot if you like trundling along branch lines plus more mainline work as time goes on as well, much of it on HSTs.

If your a train driver who likes the coast/outdoor activities it's probably the one for u as it's location is ideal for those hobbies

Par is a nice depot work wise. Unless it's changed dramatically, dont start much before 0600 except for the odd occasion, latest finish around 2330, and only one night turn.
Lots of branchline work, roughly 65/35 split branch/mainline.
It's within an hour of most of Cornwall, and relatively few of the drivers actually live in Par.

Many thanks. I don’t know the area at all but me and my wife (also a driver) are considering relocating here. Would like to know good places to live. Don’t really want to be more than 10 miles from a depot.
Would also like to know what wage is on GWR prior to signing route and Traction.
If anyone at Par depot is reading please message me.

Looks a bit of a trek from Par.
Camborne is Very rough and rundown. And about 45-60 mins from Par. The suggestion was a poor one.
Fowey is a lovely place and only 4-5 miles away, but pricy.
Lots of beautiful rural villages nearby.
I’m not at the depot but live near-ish the area and depends what kind of area you’d want to live in to be honest. St Austell is the nearest town and the largest in Cornwall so you’d have plenty of choice there.
Par is essentially coastal, so moving up or down the coast is going to relatively costly. There’s some nice smaller towns nearby and slightly in land, which might be worth considering.
Lostwithiel is nice, as is Bugle. With places like Fowey & Mevagissey close by and very popular with tourists, house prices will be higher than if you went slightly further away from that area.

Depends what sort of place you’re looking for. Some nice villages like Luxulyan, Trethurgy, Lanlivery. Fowey is nice but quite expensive. Nice area and a nice depot, good bit of a mixture of work with the Cornish mainline and branches.
