GWR Apprenticeship Job

I applied for the customer service apprenticeship role for GWR on the 19th March in Swindon. The applications closed on the 29th and I haven't heard anything back from them at all. It says the selection event if shortlisted is on the week of the 22nd of April. Should they have got back to me by now and is it likely that I haven't gotten the job?

Hi there,

I’ve just received my conditional offer for the same position, typically it can take quite a while but if you passed assessments you will be contacted to go to the assessment centre. If you haven’t heard anything I would give FirstGroup a call and just ask.

After I passed i was emailed a few weeks later giving details of the assessment day. I took mine in Swindon and I’m based in Reading. After assessment day and interview (same day) you will either get a conditional offer by telephone or they will email you with the dreaded.

Personally I’d keep an open mind and remember that if you passed initial online assessments you’ll have a good chance at getting another position or next years apprenticeship intake.

Have you applied for yours then this years intake? For me I received a email a week before the event and they said they unfortunately they had to postpone the selection event which was planned for mid April and said they have delayed it till August and they haven't said if I have passed or not and they will let me know the outcome some time in August so I'm not entirely sure why they have done this without stating a reason behind the massive 4 month delay.

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it. If I don't get in I will probably just get another Job in GWR which is more local to me as there are lots floating around all the time.

Hi Louis,

Yes I applied around February, if you haven’t received anything saying you’ve been unsuccessful then you’ve likely been deferred for the next assessment centre which is in August, while not ideal at least you have passed the initial assessment and are now on the waiting list. I attended Swindon in mid April and there were two sessions on my day but they are rather small groups.

My expectation would be that you will attend in August and have your interview on the same day, in the meantime I would keep an eye out on the job pages but the apprenticeships initial tests are easier than some other positions, along with requirements.

Let me know how you get on with things, and if no answers by August, I will have started then so will ask for an update if you wish.

Hi Railfan, good news. I have been accepted for the job! Had a interview on the 12th August and yesterday they told me the good news. Starting November 11th. How is your engineering apprenticeship going?
