Thought I should flag this one up -

I was travelling into London today on the Great Western from Didcot.

I purchased an e-ticket as I often do in the app, loaded it up and away I went. The guard came round doing ticket checks and his device showed mine up as being invalid. The face of the e-ticket showed the right date and ticket type. I'm pretty sure the guard was dying to nail me for having a screenshotted or cloned ticket, and we had a bit of an argument. In the end, he asked to see the emailed receipt. The PDF version of the ticket scanned fine. I noticed afterwards that the Aztec code was different between the two ticket versions, and the app version of the ticket had an extra '0' in it.

May be nothing but knowing that app.... It certainly irritated me. This was supposed to be a nice day off and trip into London, but having to argue with staff over their app problems cast a shadow over the day!!

@island thanks noticed that thread is locked. Maybe this is GWR specific but I've just booked advanced tickets with GWR and noticed again the coding on the App version of the ticket has an extra 0 in the alphanumeric code versus the emailed version. I'm very distrusting of this app after getting into an argument with on-board staff, I wish now I'd just bought paper tickets from the station!

The PDF version of the ticket scanned fine.

While the app should be expected to display tickets properly, it sounds like you can just use the PDF for now.

I only ever offer up screenshots of e-ticket PDFs for scanning on board and at barriers and there is nothing wrong with that. Of course PDFs can be cloned multiple times too.

You surely can't be the only person using the app though, unless you were unlucky enough to be the first affected person this guard encountered. Can you find an older version of the app and see if it still has the problem with the 0? Or maybe it will go away with the next update.

Submit a complaint to GWR and ask for confirmation of when the problem will be resolved.
