GWR 80x Nose Cones Open

I've just passed through Paddington on the Tube, and as we passed the National Rail platforms I noticed that all the GWR IETs sitting at the station or coming in/out that I could see (which was a fair few) had their nose cones open, exposing the coupling, even though none of the trains in question seemed to be doing any coupling maneuvers. What could be the reason for this? I've only ever seen the cone open for coupling before.

Quite a few are faulty at present I believe. Won't do the equipment inside much good when its open day after day like some of them have been.

I have noticed this with a lot running to Cheltenham and wondered why.

Due for more tomorrow in Wales and South East. Delays today at Plymouth due to issues on 0655 coupling up. Seems to be a lot of coupler issues on the fleet.
