GWR 387s to North Pole Depot

There appears to be pair of 387 schedules operated by GBRf to North Pole which is a very unusual place for them to go. I thought North Pole was only used for the Hitachi sets.

Further more there appears be various VSTP schedules running a shuttle service between North Pole and Paddington on Monday. Some of them taking a strange route via reversing on the Old Oak Common Back Line and then running via the Engine and Carriage Line.

Does anyone know what these are about? Are there testing something? Will we see 387s maintained at North Pole?

387s were maintained on North Pole depot very early on in their time at GWR. They moved out when West Ealing sidings was commissioned.

There are a few parallel projects, all of which would benefit from 387s regaining route clearance for the depot; possibly to include:-

Undertaking servicing of units to save lengthy trips to/from Reading

Stabling when engineering work prevents access to Reading

Use of a staff train rather than taxis whilst all the roads in the area are dug up for HS2 works
