Are these works complete now? Will 8 car GWR trains forever have the “if you’re not travelling in one of these coaches” messages due to short platforms?

Aren’t the Crossrail trains 9 coaches long? How will that work - front and rear coach locked out?

The set I had on Sunday had been updated to remove the announcement for Southall. The platforms at Acton Main Line, Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Southall and Hayes & Harlington are now long enough for 9-car 345s (well, have been since May)

Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford are also extended to 12 car, I think most of the previous discussion and photos of work in progress are in the electrification thread.

The 345s cars are 22+ m long so a 9 car 345 is the same length as a 10 car 387.

However there are no 5 car Class 387s but there are Class 377/6s and 377/7s which ARE 5 cars however they aren't used on the GWML so at the moment the longest Class 387 formation that will be used until all platforms are extended to 12 cars will be 8 car formations.

I say that because unless they use SDO, 12 cars at the moment are too long for Acton Main Line, Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Southall and Hayes & Harlington which can only take 9 cars.

GWR announced two 12 car 387 services started at the May timetable change.
Introduced with the new May timetable, the 06:52 Didcot Parkway to London Paddington has been increased to 12-carriages and a new 07:53 Twyford to London Paddington service, calling at Maidenhead only, has been created.

Made up of 12-carriage class 387 Electrostar trains, the two services will add 446 extra seats into London Paddington before 09:00.

The timetable change delivers extra seats in London and the Thames Valley at key times of the morning. The 07:53 Twyford service connects with the 07:36 Henley-on-Thames branch line train that arrives at 07:48, offering customers changing just a 5-minute wait for a fast service to London (arriving at 08:24).

Those returning home in the evening will also be able to take advantage of more seats, with the 18:42 London Paddington to Reading now also formed of 12-carriages.

They certainly do run 12 car trains with SDO.
Maidenhead isn't long enough for 12 cars. Usually the 7:33 is delayed by people queing to get on the last open door to walk through to the rear 4.

But that's only two services running as 12 cars though, ideally there ought to be a lot more running as 12 cars.

Blimey, I remember the 7:53 from Twyford being a 3 car turbo off the Henley branch. Things have changed a bit.
