Guildford to Vauxhall via Waterloo

The SWR website indicates that an Anytime Day Single (£16.90) ticket from Guildford to London Terminals is valid to Vauxhall changing at Waterloo.

I.e. the 0752 service on weekdays.

I thought there was a negative easement in place to prevent this routing. Has something changed?

There is indeed a circuitous route easement meant to prevent this, 030230:

Customers travelling from Vauxhall to Clapham Junction and beyond may not travel via London Waterloo. This circuitous route easement applies in both directions.

I'm not Sure why it wouldn't be applying this though...

Thanks. Would it maybe be because the 0752 service does not stop at Clapham Junction?

Why is that easement deemed necessary? Fares from outside London to Vauxhall (other than when a passenger uses a Zone 2-6 period travelcard) require a ticket to be purchased to London Terminals so there is no loss of revenue for a passenger going via Waterloo.

Indeed, given you can't buy an explicit ticket to Vauxhall from Guildford, does the easement apply when using a London Terminals ticket? In this instance, the traveller from Guildford to Vauxhall will actually be buying a ticket to London Terminals

Is the easement actually that you can't circulate via Waterloo with a ticket issued to Vauxhall (priced on Vauxhall being in Zone 2), but can circulate with one issued to London Terminals (priced on Vauxhall being in Zone 1)?

As the fare between Guildford and London Terminals is routed 00506 "CANDON/WOKING", the easement doesn't apply, and journey planners will advertise this as a permitted routeing.

I would imagine that they envisaged a possible situation where a ticket to Vauxhall via Waterloo was cheaper than a ticket to Waterloo and passengers would end their journey short.

That's true for tickets which originate within the London fare zones. A ticket to Vauxhall is cheaper than one to London Terminals.

I remember an earlier discussion on this. If OP wants to go Guildford - Waterloo - Vauxhall, it is unlikely that anyone would notice.

I'm planning a triangular journey as listed in the title. Tentatively it will be on 20 April (weekday), and I need help with the best/cheapest ticket to purchase. The plan is: 1) 0917 Guildford to Reading via North Downs Line. This is the first off-peak train. 2) ~1300 Reading to Staines 3)...

I wonder if it is done like this on purpose in the electronic data. They want to bar those closer to Vauxhall from going via London Waterloo but don't want to bar those further out.
