Guildford - a few places (not the same as the other thread...)

I did check the other thread out and wasn't sure whether my requirements would match up with the thread starters, so I've started a new thread. Hope this is OK!

I make regular journeys between the following destinations:

East Croydon - Guildford
Guildford - Bromley South
London Waterloo - Guildford

I know three different journeys is taking the michael a litttttle bit but I thought I would ask you guys for advice!

To start with, I'll say I have a Young Person's Railcard

With the ECR - GLD journey I mainly travel off peak in the late evenings or weekends. I hate the tram (suppose I don't want to save that much money...) so my belief is that the cheapest single journey in either direction is via Clapham Junction or Redhill on a "Not London" ticket (£6.25 with discount). Does this sound about right?

The GLD - BMS journey, I need to be in Bromley for 7.45 so the cheapest journey I found was an Anytime Day Single for £12.00...again, any other ideas? I literally change at CLJ and VIC for this journey.

Finally the WAT - GLD journey is mainly weekends, not a peak thing, and for this one I tend to travel around during the day so I get a one-day travelcard (£5.30 with discount) and then a single from Surbiton to Guildford £4.10 making a total of £9.40.

I challenge you to beat any or all of these!! but in all seriousness any help to bring my travel costs down is very much appreciated!!

How often do you make the journeys? If it's every day a Travelcard or GLD-BMS season would be a better choice I'd think.

The Bromley - Guildford is veryyyy sporadic, I've done it three times in two months. The others are maybe every fortnight, the Croydon one maybe weekly at times.

I've made the the ECR - GLD journey 100s of times and the fastest way is via Clapham Junction on a "Not London" ticket (your price is correct).

For the WAT - GLD journey you can get a Super Offpeak Day Travelcard (£11.20).

I haven't got time to search for the thread, but I'm sure there was a discussion about whether Guildford to Croydon was valid via Redhill on a not London ticket. I think you might hit some problems if you tried it. The jist was that it is not a valid route for an any permitted ticket, so if the only restriction was Not London then it probably wouldn't be valid for that either.

I commuted GLD - ECR for six years up to June last year, and must have tried most of the options. You are right, but the problem is that the fast trains don't stop at CLJ during rush hours, so by the end I was getting in to work at 7.45 and leaving correspondingly early. Outside rush hours, totally agree.

If you have to use the stopping trains then I think via Redhill was faster, but they had a nasty habit of letting the Southern train that lots of people wanted to get onto go just as the FGW pulled in a few minutes late. Also, while I don't have the knowledge others do here about the correct position, there were certainly guards on FGW who did not accept that 'not London' was valid; I always used a 'via Redhill'.

Finally, the other approach is to use a 'not Clapham' on the two or three Southern trains that run in either direction during the rush hours via Epsom (or to use SWT to Epsom and then change) to get to WCR and then use the tram, although skizz says he doesn't like trams. Slower, but definitely OK and has the advantage of no connections needed during rush hour.
