G'day everyone,

My wife and I are planning a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway this summer after an absence of many years. As the title suggests we're looking for guest house accommodation close to the railway. Essentially we're looking for a friendly well run guest house with en-suite. The guest house also needs to be within walking distance of a pub that sells real ale and offers evening meals. We'll be in the car so we're very flexible in terms of location.

Any ideas anyone?

Kind regards,

Richmond Commuter!

Not a guest house as such, but the Forest and Vale Hotel in Pickering is within walking distance of Pickering station. I stayed there for a night last year and it ticked all the boxes, including ample parking. Not the cheapest though.

Rylstone Mere B&B in Whitby is good and convenient too, with a guaranteed parking space which in Whitby is worthwhile. 5 mins from Whitby station or a 15 min drive from Grosmont.

No idea about pub proximity though...

Okay many thanks for this :) The cost of accommodation is not really a concern so I'll contact the hotel in Pickering and see what we can do. Thanks again :)

I have stayed on the past two visits at the Bramwood Guest House, can't recall their phone number, but I am sure it will come up if you google it or contact the Pickering Tourist information centre, that's where I found out about it. (They can help with accommodation suggestions and bookings) It is a good place to stay and run by a young couple, very convenient for the town centre, buses and station. I have also stayed in the Forest and Vale as mentioned above, plus the White Swan hotel and the Black Swan Pub which has a big sign explaining it's history and connection with the railway. There are a few pubs in the town too.

I stayed here http://www.bridgefoot-house.co.uk/ last time I visited the NYMR. Only a five to ten minute drive to Pickering and a pub or two within walking distance. A friendly welcome and a nice b and b.
