If it's not a Brit, then I'm going Standard 5. Leaf spring and that axlebox says Standard to me.

A clue I think.

A 45 is not correct.

Although I do think you can see a BR Std tender underframe there, but it could be a view of something LMS or SR for example.

I'll take that to be confirmation that it is definitely a steam loco tender, so let's try the Stanier 8F to start off with...

Another clue.

It's on a loco that I may have travelled behind on a Cross Country working from Cardiff in the late 70's.

In those days the odd lower powered version, brought a freight in to STJ.

I preferred a 45 to me it sounded better.

I was more electric about them!

Grrr... so it is a loco... you preferred the 45 as they sounded better... wouldn't be a 46 would it?

"Lower powered version" being the 44 presumably?
