How would I do that?

In MS Paint or something, just select the rectangle tool, go for the in-fill version, and choose black. Then simply place said rectangle where required. See the attachment for an idea.

The LNER were on the Cheshire Lines Committee, which owned the Manchester-Liverpool via Warrington Central and a couple of bits around Merseyside, presumably including this line.

To go back a bit further the Wrexham Mold and Connahs Quay company built the line. They were purchased by the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire who later became the Great Central who became the LNER on grouping
