You are quite correct with that, it changed in the 1980s I believe.

This station is situated between a triangular junction and a world-famous town. It also sees booked steam excursions passing through in summer.

Indeed it is - 6tpd to / from Stratford-upon-Avon (the world-famous town) westbound and Hatton (with the triangular junction and PSUL), the Chilterns and London eastbound. The Shakespeare Express is the regular steam summer service, but westbound only.
