What gave that away?

You + 2 377s + Third rail = Oxted Line

Then it was a matter of elimination from the 3 stations I know on the line:
  • Oxted - only two platforms so can't be that
  • Uckfield - can't be that as there is 3rd rail in the pic
  • That left the only other station I know, East Grinstead, which is electrified and I presume has 2 platforms

I'm very unfamiliar with 3rd rail land. The only two lines I have a vague knowledge of is the Oxted line (due to you) and Hastings-Brighton

Anyway, OPEN FLOOR

Also, OxtedL, when are the results for the most popular station coming out. I'm beginning to forget what I guessed - Droitwich Spa and...?

The loop is rather rusty. A number of loops on the Central Wales where temprarily closed a while back and steel trains are semi-regularly diverted that way, so Llandeilo is a decent shout. The turquoise signs suggests we are in Wales also. To cover another base, I'm going for Llandovery.

I decided to be brave and commit to Llandeilo without doing any research. Llandovery was my second option, but I'm pretty sure that Llandovery is the correct answer.

The Guess the Station census phase 2 is complete (with a couple of minor things still to follow up on), so I'll let you chew on this.

815 different national rail stations have appeared in the course of the thread, representing 1383 pictures. (This ignores stations which we have discounted as Closed, Irish, or otherwise un-includable in the census.)

The sweepstake has a surprising result. Lowestoft comes second. Just. I've left out the stations which have not been taken yet - I'll let you all have another couple of guesses on the exact stations involved, however <D.

Code:
[B][U]Station Leaderboard[/U][/B]
Crewe 12 appearances [I]IanPooleTrains[/I]
Lowestoft 11 appearances [I]paulravuslante[/I]
Newport 10 appearances [I]Track Basher (3)[/I]
Cardiff Ctl 9 appearances [I]paulravuslante (2)[/I]
Carlisle 9 appearances [I]MattE2010[/I]
York 9 appearances [I]MattE2010 (2)[/I]
Bristol TM 8 appearances [I]Track Basher (2)[/I]
Lancaster 8 appearances [I]Track Basher[/I]
Chester 8 appearances [I]paulravuslante (3)[/I]
Preston 7 appearances [I]IanPooleTrains (3)[/I]
Marylebone 7 appearances [I]IanPooleTrains (2)[/I]
Ely 7 appearances [I]Clagmonster[/I]
Leeds 7 appearances [I]MattE2010 (3)[/I]

[In the original version of this post, only Lowestoft and Ely had been guessed correctly.]

Some sort of analysis on what proportion of TB's shots are taken on the Central Wales Line might also be revealing.

I have not had many on Central Wales. I know this because I do not have many photos on there. I might win a prize for diversity. I have posted from all over the UK and a couple of Irish. Ardgay, Kyle of Lochalsh, Lowestoft, Penzance, Milford Haven, Brighton and lots of places in between. Oh and Clacton 4 times.

Llandovery is the correct answer.

Guess number 2 for top station Bristol Temple Meads

Probably not going to be the top, but if we're allowed second guesses, maybe I can win on aggregate points :D

Cardiff Central has to be up there somewhere.

Mornin' all. (Oops. Afternoon all.)

I have updated the board above, two more have fallen.

I will confirm that Liverpool Street and Droitwich Spa have not quite made it. And Blackburn is one of 12 stations that have missed the board by one. <D

Only one London terminal appears on the board, along with at least four locations on the WCML...

:D We've moved away from IPT trying to turn this thread into an episode of Catchphrase. OxtedL is trying to turn it into Family Fortunes by the look of the above board.

Matt, you are doing a sterling job of picking off stations with 6 appearances! ;)

Paul:

Btw, if IPT shows up, he has first pick on a particular station on the WCML, so sorry to anyone who guesses that. I won't elaborate further at the present time.

IPT bags Crewe and Marylebone. Leicester misses out by two. Rugeley is not even that close.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
OK, seven station left. Four are on the Virgin Trains network. One is Welsh. Two are ECML destinations. In Yorkshire.

I'm imposing a ban on more than one station being guessed per post, from now. All guesses in such a post will be disqualified. :D

Keighley, and everything mentioned by Class172 so far, do not appear <D.

Am I correct in thinking that there is one Welsh, one ECML Yorkshire and three WCML left to do?

Leeds?
