This location does see EMU operation in 2011.

I honestly don't know. Wigan NW (does that even have EMUs, unless Pendos count?)

Yes a 390 is an EMU.

I was fairly confident with Thorpe-le-Soken, but after that was disproved I really didn't have much of an idea. I just tried to avoid the obvious answers. And then worked my way north of Stafford, and Wigan just seemed like a remotely feasible guess (based on the Birmingham - Preston run).

This train ran Saturday only for this timetable period Birmingham - Preston and back using Birmingham train crew. Normally 310/312s did not venture north of Stafford. All electric trains north of Weaver Jn were loco hauled. No one up north knew how to drive EMUs.

EMUs are easy enough, right? Just a lever here, a lever there, a little handle, and away you go. Unless it's not warmed up that is.
