Based on the livery and thus the age of the picture, if it was a 310 it would have had 3 cars and/or wrap-around windows. This has neither.

My next guess is Witham.

Could potentially be on the Birmingham WCML, I guess. Although I doubt it, could it be Birmingham International?

As far as I am aware, they have been allocated to (in order):
Hornsey, Bletchley, Ilford and East Ham. You say where else, so I'll discount Hornsey. in 1986 the 305s/308s/302s were still going strong on the LTS, so I'll discount East Ham. Similarly, the 305s and 309s were still going strong on the Great Eastern and I don't think Ipswich was wired by then, which leaves Bletchley.

The layout doesn't look right for southern WCML, Brum Cross City wasn't wired by then. The layout could fit International, I wan't around then so I don't know how much was developed there. Birmingham International?

Ivo shows his age and drops a clanger. Cross City was in the hands of Pressed Steel DMUs in 1986. Had yet to be electrified.

Or lack thereof :(

I realise that now. I've had a strong day in this thread, and then I go and do that. D'oh!

I'm wondering if Stafford may be right. I do suspect otherwise though.

Edge Hill. I would have thought up there would be entirely 303s/304s, but you never know and I am running out of other ideas.
