There is not a lot around the station in Llanelli. The town is best avoided as there is not a lot there. There are three very close to the station in Burry Port if you can travel 5 minutes further on.

Thrid rail so obviously Southern. I would imagine it is a Southampton liner, therefore somewhere between Southampton-Basingstoke inclusive. It also looks fairly rural. Let's have a punt at Shawford.

I'll be arriving at 12:29 from Shrewsbury, then taking the 13:18 to Carmarthen, so Burry Port's not possible I'm afraid. Could wait till Carmarthen, but I'll be very hungry by then, so it'll have to be Llanelli.

I'll be on the 13:18 Llanelli > Carmarthen, then taking the 14:22 to Cardiff, which is the Fishguard > Cheltenham and as you say takes the [required by me] District Line. Then the WAG to Holyhead before a day of thumper bashing on NIR.

The Fishguard is booked Cardiff Central - Port Talbot - Court Sart Jn - Grovesend - Llangennech - Llanelli - Carmarthern Avoider - Whitland - Fishguard Harbour. It is nearly the same route back except it goes into Carmarthen.

It is only possible to do Grovesend - Hendy Jn on charter trains or the Royal Welsh Show special for the four days it operates.

However if there is engineering works on the district the train runs round the back of Landore depot. This is not uncommon as the only trains that have to use the district are steel trains to Trostre (otherwise required top and tail to make the double reversal at Llandeilo Jn) and oil trains from Robersons (weight limit over Loughor viaduct). The partial bad news is there was a ballast train down the district on Saturday so you stand a chance of it being closed. This tends to happen in the middle of the day when there is no freight and the passenger train can be diverted as no calling points are missed. The line reopens for the two evening oil trains to Robertsons.

If you want Burry Port you need to hope the 12:25 Pembroke is 5 mins late and you can make it. Then pick up from there heading west. The other alternative at Llanelli is go into town as you arrive from HoW you need to head North to the town.

Yes.

I require both so am not too bothered which it does this time.

Correct. The district should has two trains each way per day:

• 05.xx Carmarthen - Manchester
• 10:55 Cardiff - Fishguard
• 13:30 Fishguard - Cheltenham
• 16:30 Manchester - Milford Haven

You can tell these in table 128 by not calling at Neath and Swansea.

Landore curve is much more difficult as it has no booked services and you have to know when the engineering works are taking place on the district. It only normally affects the daytime Fishguards as the other two are close to the oil trains. Charter trains do not do the Landore curve very often as the have to be going to West Wales from Cardiff and there has to be a path available. Most go via the district.
