I will give this a little while, maybe five guesses, and then come back. If someone calls it right, I will let you know immediately (or rather, within a couple of minutes).

The pink colour scheme indicates c2c, and I know you are from/at university in Southend, so, as a guess, Thorpe Bay, but I ain't sure 'bout the level crossing.

Ah, sod what I said before. I'll give answers regularly.

I do like how both of my official local stations [BTH/TPB] have been in the first three answers (), but neither is correct. I also like the logic; pink could however suggest other places as well (some FCC, for instance).

N.B.: The only level crossings in Southend are on the MOD route, which splits just before the SRY terminus. Both of the two outside of the MOD site are gated, but use old white blocks like those often seen on preserved lines; that's how rarely there are used!

I will concede that, as a joke, I used the airbrush on MS Paint on the tree a little, to see if anyone would notice (I would but most wouldn't). But that has no effect on the picture at all. The vast majority of the picture has not been changed, other than it having been cropped.

This was an exceptionally clear summer's day, so that may have had something to do with it.

Summarising what we know

This looks as though it is on a non electrified line (can't see any overheads or 3rd rail)
With the concrete sleepers it is probably quite a well used line this also fits with the four aspect signal on the end of the platform
It is also quite a well used station because of the large poster boards on the platform
It had a level crossing on the end of the platform
It looks as though the route operates as driver only becuase of the large mirrors behind the signal

By my reconing it is probably Chiltern or Great Western and near the London end

Oxford.

If you look very closely, you might actually notice something in the tree (that may or may not have been done by me, I'm not saying) that should help. It is very difficult to notice though.

And what is meant by "not a new pic" anyway? I have attempted to use this one before, but something always happened that prevented its use (my deciding otherwise, someone beating me to an open floor, not being able to confirm my presence, etc). Thus, this is its first (and obviously only) incarnation in this thread.

Well, it's TB's go. Grays is the correct answer.

For everyone's benefit, here is the slightly edited version "2A" ("2" is a completely different edit). Note how the random spots (in version "2B") in the tree actually hide a camouflaged line that itself covers the OHLE. All that is edited in "2A" is the station sign that is partly visible next to the 357, and indicator on Platform 1.

And sorry it's taking so long; my Internet is playing Silly Buggers again. Bloody thing Also, it was my mistake on misintepreting the meaning of "This is not a new pic". I thought you were accusing me of re-using old material (which, as explained, is actually half-true).

Also, referring to something I said earlier, there were OHLE problems somewhere around East Tilbury, so the line was closed between Pitsea and Grays. Certainly made crossing the line easier!

What was confusing me is the lack of overhead wires. You cannot see any posts in the photo. I did Grays a while back and that caused trouble because it had changed so much.
