As a second guess, I would say Finsbury Park. But it would have to be quite some time ago for it work, owing to the lack of OHLE (which I ignored at first, for some bizarre reason).

By the way, what does "Crompton plus 4TC" mean? Am I overlooking something?

4TC - a type of Southern EMU

The 4TCs could had no power equipment and were generally used with Class 438 REP units on the Waterloo-Weymouth route, a 33/1 would attach at Bournemouth to take the 4TC forward to Weymouth.

It is a 33/1 and a 4TC.

A 4TC is a Southern Region unpowered multiple unit. Were generally pushed and pulled around by 33/1s or 73s. They also ran London - Weymouth before electrification
in with an EMU to Bournemouth the the TC came off the front and was hauled to Weymouth this the 33/1. Then shoved back to Bournemouth and attached to the EMU.

33/1s and TCs also used to work Waterloo to Salisbury.

The traction equipment was reused from the EMUs in the 442s.

Reading is correct. Bank Holiday Monday as the Southern operated Sunday service so 33/1s operated on Basgingstoke to Reading and the Western Region operated a weekday services. 50s on the mainline and 33s on the Basingstokes.

Summary: Feeling old rememdering this stuff.

Also meant to add in my view one of the best Railtours of all time was operated by a Class 33/1 and 2x4TCs. The Liverpool St Leapfrog.

Were the weekday services not 205s with the odd 207? I distinctly recall a trip from Reading to pompey via Basingstoke which was a 205 throughout (sunday), and I have a picture of a 205 at Basingstoke displaying route code '80'.

This is a 4TC. The second shot is the 33 shoving away on the rear. This is at Westbury and not part of the competition.

I have no idea where the competition is St Denys?

After though: Should have kept this for the guess the station!

I'm not entirely sure it is (hence my non-SWT guess); I actually thought that the blue posts suggest it could be Southeastern. If it is, I would be inclined to think that it's quite remote; maybe somewhere between Southampton and Portsmouth?

...or, as Track Basher says, north of So'ton

The weekdays were 205 / 207s but in 1984 Sunday service was operated by 33/1s. They were indeed Reading to Portsmouth trains.
