Everything's on its last legs in the North West, not just the railways!

@ TB: I'm not going to guess at this as I don't know and don't do random. If there's a clue later on I may have a stab then.

You may consider it on it's last legs but it is still there 20 years later and still open.

It actually has a better service now than it did then.

There will be clues later but we have only had one guess so far.

Why is it I have to miss the easy one, lol (I only used to go there every day, lol - then again I probably know most of the Southeastern / Southern ones!)

Anyway as for the more recent one, I honestly don't have a clue so at a guess - Roose? (edit - obviously not the one for the airport in cardiff!)

I don't recall the Provincial liveried coaches being used in Scotland, except on charters-which probably explains why I've spent the eveing in the wrong places so far.:roll:

This is 1992 and Scotrail were using Provincial liveried coaches but with ScotRail in the "Regional Railways" font.

By 1992 the Scottish diesel network was pretty much entirely in the hands of 150s, 156s and 158s so I'm a little lost.

Either it's a charter or there was a medium to long term unit shortage-neither of which I recall.

We have a winner.

There are actually two big clues in the picture.

The 37 is actually running into the loop on the right not the left with is the UK norm. You generally only see this on lines fitted with RETB.

The second is the top of the grain loading silo in the top left of the picture. This dominates Muir of Ord.

During this period Inverness had a number of sets of coaching stock the Green and Cream set with the former Class 101 observation saloon and a few sets in Provincial Livery which were working Kyle and West Highland because Scotrail has suffered cronic overcrowding the previous summer. Scotrail did not have any locos at the time and used to rent in Civil Engineers 37s to work the trains.

1993 saw petrolium 37 430 428 etc.

This is the period when all the sleepers were booked with generator cars and 2 x 37s. Kyle was 37 hauled no heat RAJV 37s and some FDTE 37/4s on the West Highland between FTW and MLG with an evening trip to CNR.
