Interesting. I can't think of any long term works and that date was a Sunday, so essentially we're likely looking for somewhere with a crossover. Barnehurst?

I'm digesting the hint. You are clearly hinting at a replacement bus involving the Western Region. I'm going ot propose that Paddington was shut (or at least a section of the GWML) was and you ended up on a bus to the South Western Division, which hasn't been ruled out by the clues, just by people looking at the paint. You have hinted that there are more than two platforms. My knowledge of the road network in those parts isn't that great, but the red bus could be on rail replacement. Let's go Virginia Water.

Correct as far as the station goes, though I was on a line bash (Addlestone - Byfleet) and had to get a Rail Replacement from Reading to Virginia Water. the pic is taken from the Chertsey platform (4).

I suppose a little bit of my logic was right. Not much of it, but a little. I've done Byfleet-Addlestone and vice-versa, but still require the up fast to up slow crossover at Byfleet (I think, I have no record of it, if anybody was on the tour from Exeter with the western who has a record of what it did I'd be pleased to hear from you) and also the rather easier Addlestone - Weybridge, but I suspect the crossovers to get onto the mainline rather than the bay will be tricky.

For the doubter amongst us, and despite me being there when I took the picture on my phone, the picture was taken from the far left of the below picture, roughly where the arrow is (possibly a little further away though).

Hmm. On the risk of idiocy...

...Strood?

Also not Rochester. I agree the architecture is similar though and would imagine it is at Strood too.

Sorry just couldn't see it when I looked at Google Maps. And with the grey lamppost...

I remember being in Cynghordy on the morning as the workmen were getting ready to set up that ramp to the platform. Lot of workmen up and down the HOW that day.

Good luck with this one.
