Unless there's a agreement between the two TOCs regarding staff travel then don't assume you have the automatic right to free travel as it's just a bonus if said guard allows you.

If there isn't such a agreement in place then ask before you board is always advisable, never assume because others get away with it you can as it can lead to travel passes being removed.

You mean let them chillax in FC without a ticket, necking brews and causing a commotion? Seen it happen many a time...
