With the 313s very likely being withdrawn in a few months at the May 2023 timetable change what will happen to Guards at Barnham and Brighton depots? Would i be correct to presume that they will all simply be converted to OBS or will some lose their jobs?

If they get converted to OBS will they remain on their current Guard contracts? Or will they have to sign new standard OBS contracts? One of the main differences is that Guards get 5% commission per ticket but OBS get a flat rate 50p commission per ticket. At the moment all Guards at all four depots do very regularly work OBS duties (and their job title changes from "Conductor" to "Assisting Conductor" when this happens) but they are still employed as a Guard officially even when they conduct OBS duties.

Also are we likely to see any industrial action from the drivers? Is there a possibility of this? When the dispute was going on a few years ago in 2016/2017/2018 it was agreed that there would be no further expansion of DOO. However with the 313s being withdrawn this means that promise will be broken so it makes me wonder whether drivers will take industrial action.

Eastbourne Guards will all keep their jobs and continue to work Eastbourne to Ashford 171s. Selhurst Guards will all keep their jobs and continue to work London Bridge to Uckfield 171s and Clapham Junction to Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central 377s.

But i wonder do Eastbourne and Selhurst depots have any vacancies? Or are they likely to have vacancies in the near feature? If so could some Guards transfer to these depots? I know that there are quite a few Brighton Guards who live in the Lewes area so Eastbourne could work very well for them. I know that there are also quite a few Brighton Guards who live in the Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath and Crawley areas so Selhurst could work well for them. Barnham depot is much further though so i doubt it would be easy for many of those Guards to transfer. However at the moment a lot of the Eastbourne and Selhurst based Guards often work OBS duties so i presume it is unlikely vacancies will be available? They seem to have more Guards than they need? But i would be interested to know if it is likely that any will be offered transfers as an alternative to becoming and OBS?

I would be interested to hear others thoughts on this. If anyone knows any further information that would be interesting to hear.

No extension of DOO meant new routes so the 313 matter is not relevant

There wouldn’t be any additional routes.
The routes 313’s go so do the 377’s staffed with OBS. Either early morning, late evening or weekend. So won’t affect the agreement.
