My TOC have automatic announcements but I loath them as they go on for ages and sound totally robotic. I much prefer voice announcements and I am sure most passengers will agree! I do like to make my own announcements but I ensure they are relevent, don't go on too much and sound human. Some of my Collegeues however go too far, even if they can be amusing and I've had a Driver go mad at me once or twice for making announcements. Further to someones point about the volume of the PA, on our units this cannot be adjusted. Some are blaring loud and some are painfully slow, and if the cab door is open sometimes there is dreadful interference!

Frankly it's none of their business, you wouldn't start having a go at a driver if you didn't like their driving style would you? (Unless it was unsafe).

In some units (158's for example) there is a speaker right behind the driver in the vestibule, and it can be a distraction.

In our units you can rarely hear announcements in the cab, but the PA button illuminates above the TMS which some drivers find a distraction also
