Some stations love a good illuminated bat when a clean white one would suffice. In good light the plain white is easier to see then the illuminated one!

I disagree! It very much depends on the distance between you and what the dispatcher is standing in front of! The LEDs are difficult to miss, whereas the plain white baton can easily blend in. Hence 'baton waving' which you see rather a lot of!

Sleepers use green/red flags in summer months when its light. New stock will have bell buzzers though.

67s have bell buzzers iirc but they don't always work.

In Euston all LM guards give a green flag to dispatch staff, as do Virgin guards.

If they're nice and bright... these were a little dim

You can use the illuminated bat in daylight, just don't use the lights. There is a non-illuminated one too, which is smaller (on account of not having the lighting section, or the space in the handle for the C batteries) but at busy stations, I can imagine it being quite messy having all of these lying around.
