Hi everyone. I have a Guard interview coming up very soon. I was wondering if anyone will be able to offer any advice on what to expect etc.

Thank you.

Hi. Congrats and good luck. When I had mine last year, it was mainly about my previous customer service and cash handling experience. Questions like how I would cope in a difficult situation and asking for examples of working within strict rules and procedures. If you look at the questions they ask the drivers, I found the questions similar to those, with extra customer service ones added. Hope this helps a bit.

I think every interviewer will do things differently but I answered my questions with 4 things in mind 1.) Safety 2.) Punctuality 3.) Revenue protection and (4) customer service. It will most likely be the guards manager that will be interviewing you, their job is to ensure above all that levels of safety are upheld and so safety will be the most important thing to bang on about in your answers. The interviewer may even give you a scenario about what you might do in a situation that is potentially dangerous, just think through it logically and think about safety.
Punctuality comes in second place and it is important you can demonstrate you are punctual or at least know that this is very important to the guard's job and has a big impact on the companies finances. Again you may be given a scenario or a question like "What can you do as a guard to help ensure that a train has the best possible chance to run on time?" Your answer may be something like "ensuring luggage congestion is kept to minimum and keeping doors clear of obstructions that may become problematic later in the journey" or something similar.
You may also be asked if you have any cash handling experience or something to do with numeracy in regards to revenue protection, although this is probably the least important aspect of the guards job I get the feeling that secretly this is the most important aspect to managers so it's best you prepare a diplomatic answer for any revenue questions.
You'll probably get some kind of generic question about customer service "What do you think good customer service is? Give an example of a time you have given good customer service so on and so forth..

Keeping those 4 things in mind and preparing examples and informative answers for different situations worked for me. However every interview is different I guess. As the previous poster wrote the base questions they will ask are quite similar to the driver's interview questions so it would be worth looking at those and working with those.
