Seemingly if you are actually at Hebden Bridge, it will announce incorrect information about the train being too long for the platform

I was on a train from Birmingham around twenty years ago,. As we reached Piccadilly the guard announced-Due to a bus strike - Onwards rail connections are available, Then mentioned Key greater Manchester towns-Including services from Victoria, Ashton, Oldham, Rochdale.

Interesting, I've never heard any guards announce connections on Scotrail services, even at Haymarket.

The auto announcer on Scotrail Turbostars used to, at least pre-tram, announce the bus link to Edinburgh Airport. It did this in both directions even though almost all the West/Noth bound services would have started at Waverley where it would have been easier and usually quicker to board the airport bus directly.

It still does.

I can't speak for the 385s, but on 170s and 158s it announces 'alight here for the bus and tram link, to Edinburgh Airport'

Yep - still does it. It's always been a confusing one as most services either start at Waverley, where as you say it would be easier to catch the direct bus, or have previously stopped at Edinburgh Park/Gateway which are both far closer to the airport with a tram link.

Sunderland had an away game at Portsmouth, loads of us were piled on an SWT to Waterloo, forget the reason but the train was delayed to the extent that everyone would have missed the connection at Kings X by the time they’d got from Waterloo to the cross. Guard announced that “for those passengers travelling back to the North East this evening, this train will be making an additional call at Vauxhall where you can change for London Underground services to Kings Cross”, which was greeted with a huge sigh of relief.

ATW/TfW never announce(d) connections at Crewe or Warrington, despite nearly everybody alighting needing a connection.
In contrast, Virgin/Avanti usually announce(d) full details of connections when arriving at Crewe from the west.
On their new trains (maybe not 802s), TPE now have connection details displayed on the PIS, as of course is common on the continent.
I have yet to hear announcements in a foreign language, however...

A fair few years ago, the Champions League final was at Wembley between Bayern and Dortmund, the SE High Speed services from Dover were packed with German supporters, in the spirit of trying the OBM tried in his best German to announce onward connections at St Pancras to Wembley Park (Met line) its a rarity in the UK, our language skills are pretty awful compared to our European cousins.
I must say I don't know how many were listening as the two sets of fans sat together mixing well on the train, drinking like fishes and so happy and merry.

Just had a Thameslink driver (strong London accent) announce at Gatwick Airport to "change here for an extremely limited selection of flights from British Airways, easyJet and others, Southern services to stations towards Ford, Portsmouth and Southampton, other Thameslink and Southern services for local stations towards East Croydon and London Victoria as well as local bus services. After Gatwick Airport we will be whizzing along to East Croydon non-stop. I thank you for travelling with Thameslink today. Bye-bye!"
