Although it isn't stated who is eligible to apply, I presume these adverts are aimed Year 10 students given use of the term "stars of the future" and reference to not yet having a National Insurance number.

There are a variety of placements available on the Southern, Thameslink and London area of the Great Northern. For those into in railways, it looks like a good opportunity to secure a decent placement and something to put on the CV once at school leaving age.

Work Experience 2018 - London & Great Northern Routes
Work Experience 2018 - London to the Southcoast
Work Experience 2018 - Thameslink Route
Work Experience 2018 - Head Office

All listed at https://gtrailwaycareers.com/templates/GTRailway/job_list.aspx

True about Y10 obvious targets, excellent opp. It'd be fun to be Spanner Monkey on the Trains for a while, pity they don't aim something similar to those in their 30's.

Excellent idea from them and a credit to the company for doing this if gives lot of people in sight to the railway when they leave education or try a different path.

I applied for the opportunity at Southern, but it's been two weeks now and still haven't heard anything. I regularly check the GTR website to see if there's been any update but it's still at the "Application Submitted" stage.

Well done for applying - hopefully they will get back to you soon. The railways can be very slow at getting back to applicants, but they haven't forgotten you!

I can see on the adverts that the application deadline is the 11th March. If you haven't heard back within a couple of weeks of that date, may be worth pinging them an email, but fingers crossed you'll hear back before then. Hang in there!

The deadline passed yesterday, and still no word. Hope I hear something from them soon though, as my college needs paperwork to be filled out. If i needed to ask them about it, should I use the “Communications” tab on the careers website?

It's been one day and you are already considering contact?

Considering how many threads appear on this forum asking about work experience opportunities, this is a great idea. GTR take a fair bit of stick but credit where credit's due here.

Yeah I was kinda put under pressure by my college, since they needed the paperwork but since I wrote the post I’ve been given an extension, so all is well.

Been a month since I applied and still no word. I've tried to access the GTR careers website today but after I log in, it does not want to load and says that my request has timed out.

Still haven’t heard from GTR, and the dates I’ve selected to do my work experience are coming up soon. I sent them a message through the careers website just before the bank holiday weekend asking for an update with no reply as of yet.

Not sure where to turn to next. Perhaps sending Southern a message via Twitter?

Sorry to hear that - must be very disappointing. No news may be good news, not that that helps with the admin that has to be done at your end.

Did they provide a contact telephone number?

Finally heard back last week, and I'm pleased to report that I will be doing my work experience at GTR on the Trainee Train Driver scheme for one week at the end of the July! So excited and I am already looking forward to it!
They have also given me some useful documents which I could use for future applications too.
I must thank GTR for giving me this huge opportunity, and again I cannot wait to start

Congratulations! The process can be slow but certainly worth it when it comes through. Hope you have a great time!

Resurrecting a slightly old thread, my son’s just started two weeks year 10 work experience on the media team with GTR at London Bridge. At some point this week he’s tasked with going out in the cab of a class 700 and taking some pictures of stations.

I’m not jealous.
