Hi guys, I had my MMI interview yesterday and found out today that I passed and now in the Talent Pool. Just wanted to say thanks for all your helpful hints and tips and sharing your journeys. It’s been really helpful and interesting.
My application was with Great Northern. So now just a waiting game for a course date.

If you’re awaiting a southern course it’s unlikely to be this year. The June course, if it goes ahead, is the last they expect to run

This is disappointing news.
Which depot? Not many trainees coming through at the moment and last I heard all final assessments have been frozen until end of this year so there's going to be a backlog.

Would be nice mate. Like everyone else, just wanna get stuck into it now tbh.
Well I think cricklewood are quite short now, its not the most appealing depot as the work is a bit boring but as a trainee that isn't an issue , hopefully something will come up soon.
Not sure if they have many DI's there so not sure how long its taking with people getting out and about once the classroom bit is done.
There was some issues with trainees and ATO , not sure if that's been resolved now.

Automatic train operation.
Train drives itself through the core but they've had issues with the trainees learning the core as a lot of the instructors had already done the ato course and if you've done the course you have to drive in ETCS which is where you're driving to the in cab screen aswell .
This meant the trainees couldn't drive through the core, so had to swap over at 1st station south of London bridge and not resume until west hampstead and vice versa so they were missing out about an hours drive each way give or take. Not sure if its been sorted now .

This whole process seems to have ground to a halt for some and not even really started for others. I’m still waiting for an assessment day having applied in Dec 20!
I find it slightly concerning that those who applied on the more recent recruitment drive might get an assessment day before those like myself who applied almost 18 months ago. Any excitement or anticipation I had months ago has long since disappeared.

What toc have you applied for because only southern had a recent job advertisement but I'm sure that was closed in a few days and was probably depot specific. GN and TL last recruitment drive was in Dec 20.

Southern. I knew the whole process was slow but this is painfully so. The updates from HR are few and far between. I thought things might speed up with Covid regulations relaxing but obviously not.
I appreciate this won’t be what anyone wants to hear but, if you’ve been waiting two or more years in the pool, it probably is worth considering applying to other TOCs.
There have been examples on here of people who have waited years in pools and never actually got a job to show for it, so it’s something to keep in mind.

This is different. There hasn’t been any courses for 2 years, give or take 1 or 2. They haven’t kept people in talent pools because they weren’t high performers in their assessments, they’re stuck in pools because of Covid.
I'd still echo what was said, I'd still apply everywhere and elsewhere. I was a shunter for my previous toc with the chance of going mainline within the next year or 2 but I got offered a mainline course elsewhere and took it.

If applying to other TOCS, what's the process?
Despite completing all of the assessments & interviews elsewhere, I'd imagine a new TOC would need to put you through a DMI & MMI or how does it work?
