GTR Thameslink DMI

[Need2]

Just been notified of my DMI date with GTR for Thameslink Gillingham vacancy.
I have failed :cry::cry: some before with other TOC's so have some knowledge of the format.
Would GTR DMI's be the same sort of routine/order? With other TOC's they always ask for you to research the company as they always ask you what you know about them.
Should I concentrate just on Thameslink or research broadly on the whole GTR network
Can any recent DMI candidates give me a low down on the interview structure? SWT DMI was like another MMI but I know other TOC's DMI's are like informal chats!

Thameslink is part of Govia. Do a bit of research about Govia. Read the newsletter, which can be found at their stations or on their website. Learn a bit about the new TL routes (i.e. from Rainham, Kent) and the new trains (Siemens). Show your motivation and interest in the company and job. Learn the qualities required to be train driver. Remember what you wrote in your application and possibly, if you have a chance, use examples that you used in it.

I did a DM interview with TL. Sort of informal compared with the MMI, but I guess it may depend on which managers interview you.

Been googling and bookmarking loads of stuff but am Struggling to find much info about new routes from Rainham or any info about the Gillingham depot. Any ideas?

I had an interview with gtr last week, they ask you what you know about the company. Visions and values u should learn but apart from that it doesn't actually form part of the scoring system.

I'm sure it does.

Either way a good answer will put you ahead of other applicants.

My interview was with southern, the person doing the interview told me that it does not score. Maybe as I already work for company it does not matter

As stated many times. Interviews for internals and existing Drivers etc can be quite different. "scoring" is different across TOC's and the MMI vs DMI is also a different kettle of fish.

Speaking to a DM recently regarding an interview he just performed he was clear that the guy performed perfectly but just didn't feel right for the job. He wasn't going to get the job.

A DMI is much more subjective and building a rapport with the interview panel and coming across as a potential employee is much more significant. When candidates become generic and "score" the same then something has to separate them. The better you interview and the more opportunity you provide to the interviewer to engage with you will make you stand out.

Again, speaking with DM's, HR etc. They are looking for employees and those with a potential future at the TOC.

My internal interview recently used the exact same question paper but flexed a little to be more relevant for the position I applied for. Both of the interviewers asked the same question and wanted different answers. As this was internal I took the opportunity to ask what they were looking for and reasons why.

They acted independently and looked for personal criteria. They then compare notes and discuss the various merits they saw or didn't see. Less room for bias but still room for personal choice of an applicant.

How did it go today Need2, had my interview today and it went so so, they kept me waiting for an hour in the drivers mess so they could "pop out for some lunch" which made me more nervous.

What time was your interview? (mine was 11:30, finished about 1)
I too was kept for about 15 minutes but that was for them to get a quick cuppa (fair enough) and to sort out the problem that was 2 of us showing up for the same slot! Unfortunately for the other guy they chose me and sent him home. (I don't think he was 1 of you 3 from the assessment day, his face didn't ring any bells)
I actually felt mine went well, a very relaxed interview and I thought the guy and the lady were brilliant. Certainly wasn't as daunting and stressful as I have had before.
Trouble is I thought it went quite well but that doesn't mean jack sh*t at the end of the day does it!
It's the waiting game now I'm afraid, you just do not know.
Just think, if you do pass you've got to do the same sort of questioning again for the mmi :roll::roll: which they did mention would be a telephone interview.
Whatever will be will be. Very best of luck

Edit: Waiting in the mess room wasn't too bad. I read some of the notices on the staff board and noticed an article about the canal tunnel at St. Pancras. When I was asked about my knowledge of Thameslink in the interview I spoke about the tunnel and saw the guy mention it on his paperwork!

My interview was 1pm but started around 2pm after they had some lunch. It was nice and relaxed that was for sure and the woman did settle some nerves, oddly she said to me she did not know about the mmi interview or where it would be held, she assumed would be at Croydon again. I too have done what I thought was a great interview only to not get the go ahead so we shall see. Good luck with the mmi.

They told me would be done at go ahead Croydon, just very odd they tell one person one thing and only an hour later me something else.

I had just finished the DMI and the woman said (something like)
"Just remembered that if you're successful then (some other member of staff) will call you to do the multi modal interview over the phone" I said that unless GTR had a different policy then I'd already passed the MMI with another toc so would I still have to do it?
Taking into account she was a manger but not a driver manager, she said she didn't know what an mmi or multi modal interview was so couldn't comment! :roll::roll:The driver manager present didn't say anything!

Even if cost saving was an issue ( I dont believe that it would be ) It wont save the TOC any money, as they will still have to pay the interviewer the same whether they conduct it over the phone or in person.

Totally different, I found the DMI quite relaxed and more of a chat in comparison ( I had still done all my research and put the effort in) where as the MMI I found much more intense.

This is probably because of my lack of experience in the S.T.A.R interview process, I had to be reminded a couple of times to explain what I DID do and not what I WOULD do. Once you get your head around this I'm sure it is easier.
At the end of they day they where asking me about myself, so no right or wrong answers in the literal sense.
I came out not sure if I had reached the required level.
Fortunately I had.

Thanks for sharing - I've got my MMI next month, so good to get confirmation of my thoughts of what to expect. I found my DMI fairly relaxed, but was quite surprised to find how similar it is to the MMI in terms of question structure.
Oh and well done by the way!
