Frankly I'm surprised to say that I have been picked out of one of those dreaded "holding pools" and will be starting in the role "soon"
I originally applied for GTR/1072 then GTR/17(somthing, can't recall)
Medical is all out of the way and now I get to wait and see~

But I do have a few questions for any one that may currently be in the role!

I have been posted to cricklewood, so local answers would be amazing~

Firstly, do you find it dull? What sort of things do you do day to day?
I ask that due to currently being GTR platform staff and I have to admit since almost every train is now DOO, it's really quite... boring now I suppose.

What's the 'typical' roster like?

And what sort of wage do you tend to get after overtime and bonuses/such?

(By all means poke in DMs if you'd feel better for it)

Hi

I take it it isn't a shunter driver role?

Cricklewood has five 24 car length sidings and a carriage wash line leased to GTR.
As the nice N R signaller controls all moves in or out, all sidings have powered points and position light signals, the shunter doesn’t actually shunt but coordinates depot protection and berthing location within siding. All arrivals and departure moves are radioed to the N R signaller to set route.
A further five new sidings open in November

Huh, sounds interesting that then. Surprised to know point pulling isn't a part of that location!

Cheers for the detailed awnser there~

They used to pull points but the depot was upgraded a while back. They are also know as 'Yard Protection' rather than 'Shunters' although we always call them Shunter.

Communication skills will be essential. They also work closely with the cleaning team.

Does anyone have an idea of the salary? I noticed Greater Anglia advertised for a Shunter a couple of weeks ago but the salary wasnt stated.

Thanks

Off this thread topic but to answer your question GA Depot Driver’s salary is £30/£31k depending on location.

I could be wrong but I think he meant the shunter job advertised at Cambridge a few weeks back not the depot driver positions.
