GTR Shunter Driver Assessment

So currently 19 years old and I have the GTR Shunter Driver - assessment in 1 months time.

I have an idea of what to expect on the day, but can anyone enlighten me as to how similar the assessment will be to the train drivers one?

And any other advice or tips to help me on the day would be appreciated, thank you!

Well done for getting through the sift. I sat shunter assessment for GTR, didnt go through the DMI and when I came to apply for trainee driver with them I didn't have to do the assessments as my shunter ones covered these. So my guess is they are identical.


Good luck with them though. All information in here is brilliant!

Hi I’ve just seen ur msg now I have an interview very soon for shunter/driver position and wanted to know what a typical day was like for someone doing this job?

It's the same process as for a mainline driver, take a look and prepare for the assessments they do and you'll be made aware of what is expected, especially brush up for interviewing on competency also as you will sit two separate interviews the DMI and MMI if successful

GTR let down :(

I just wanna vent out my frustration at GTR.... So after spending hours upon hours on the application, getting shortlisted, having an assessment date booked for next week, printing out over a hundred sheets of paper for practicing and for the Group Bourdon, spending hours on these forums etc...

I have the GTR Shunter Driver assessment coming soon, I have no idea of what material I should use to prepare myself for the assessment?
Can anyone help me to with the material needed for the assessment please?
