Southern's web site includes the news that GTR has 'scooped' a set of awards, including Rolling Stock Excellence and Customer Information and Service Excellence (for Southern).

The rolling stock award was for the class 387/1s, which apparently include "outstanding passenger facilities". I find it hard to grasp;
a) what outstanding facilities the 387/1s have - would that be rock hard seats, poorly-marked and very basic first class accommodation, or something else?
b) how Southern's information regime could be described as anything more than poor, generating, as it does, huge volumes of complaints, which are always met with the stock answer that "we know how important good information is to our customers".

This is just insulting to those of us who have to endure this 'quality' every day!

Awards to treasure, indeed.

Considering their website still has the company name Southern Railway Ltd (a TOC that no longer exists) on it, I would take anything on it with a pinch of salt.

Thameslink's shows what should be there..

I believe the customer information award related to a specific category of customer and in this case disabled customers. I think the other awards were also restricted in their category so it might not be all as it seems.

So do they have a separate team, with an iq greater than zero, to deal with the disabled? I doubt it. I am confident that GTR's incompetence extends to all areas of customer service.

What's sad is that the idiots managing this pathetic excuse for a TOC probably believe they're good. They don't even know which of their trains their own off peak tickets are valid on ffs!

In which case the award should be withdrawn.

Last week I saw a lady in a wheelchair sat in the vestibule of a 442 at Victoria waiting for someone to help her off. I had to go and rant at the staff before anything was done. This was despite the assistance being pre-booked. Utterly appalling service from Southern, which is what you'd expect from a company with low standards (and that consistently fails to meet them).

Given how GTR are being slated by customers, government and the press just recently its obvious they will try and make every positive seem like a world beating event. Sad really......

Customer Information and Service Excellence? Of all things they could've won an award for? Please excuse me whilst I cry into my 'Congratulations On Becoming An Established Member' champagne.

Amusing situation on the SouthernRailUK Twitter feed the other night... Rail Business Awards tweets that they have won the Rolling Stock Excellence award, a third party comes along and asks if this is a parody account and the GTR employee manning the Twitter account says that they are not sure if it's a parody or not, but they have reported it!

Talking of parodies, the SE Tranes account is worth a look ;).

Whilst Southern no longer exists as a separate TOC, a look on the Companies House site shows it still exists as a company, and also shows GTR as a non-trading company!
