Good Morning

Thank you for taking the time to apply for a role as a trainee train driver within GTR. Your completed application has been received and is now under consideration. Due to the home postcode which you supplied on your application, we believe you may be based nearer to one of our Thameslink routes. As such, we would like to consider your application for Thameslink, rather than Southern routes.

As safety is our paramount concern for train drivers, the application process is very thorough and detailed. The first stage of the process is the screening of all applications received. The competition is strong at this stage, and we consider all parts of your application before inviting successful applicants to assessment. Due to the huge volume of applicants, we hope to be able to get back to you regarding this stage as soon as possible, but this may take several months. We appreciate your patience at this stage.

If successful at the screening stage, we will invite you to an assessment day at Go Ahead House in East Croydon where you will be asked to sit a series of relevant assessments.

Once you have passed the assessment stage, you sit two very different interviews; one with the driver depot managers, and one with our psychometric assessors. The final stage of the process is a medical examination, ensuring that you’re fit and well to start your training.

I would once again like to thank you for taking the time to complete your application, and wish you every success in the next stages.

Best regards

Just wandering who else received an email like this and Wether you have also received any further updates since?? I applied around December time I believe and received this email on the first of February. It's my first time applying and I would appreciate and advice or tips on what to expect and how my chances sound, thank you.

Oh, thank you! This is the first forum I have ever joined so not really used to it haha. Thames link is closer so would suit me better. Guess I'm really just trying to find out if anybody has had a similar response and what thier thoughts are on it. It says it may take several months to hear back from the company themselves.

Well I just got a response inviting me to assessment centre, my job reference was GTR/0824 though back in Jan last year! I thought I was going to be left in limbo so it was a surprise to get this out the blue.

I notice GTR will always get back to you positive or negative, when i applied in 4/15 they sent an email saying the initial sifting taking longer than usual but got back to me like 6 weeks later.

So hang tight, they will get to you sooner than several months

And thanks :)

Exactly the same here, I spoke to a woman in HR this afternoon and she said that they are still doing the sift. She said that they are overwhelmed by the response.
