Out of interest has anyone ever waited as long as a year after medical for a start date? Not aware of it

I also think if we are having medicals now that means they need us soon... If we were not to be on courses till well into next year why do the medicals now?

Is anyone else relocating for the job?

Well my friend who had passed her stage 2 for FGW in end 2013 only had DMI/medical earlier this year (i think) and got on the March course and they are short of D.Is. But then you know about FGW more than me, i only work alongside them at Padd.

Yeah fgw only give medicals to people they give start dates to I think and yes people normally wait only a few months after it seems almost unheard of to hear of people waiting say a whole year after a medical

If I were you I'd calm down a little as, whilst I know you are eager to get a start date, they will be in touch when they have room for you on a course. At the moment they are taking on far more trainees than they have space and facilities for so there will be a wait.

They will do medicals before offering a start date simply so they know those on the waiting list can definitely start on a course as soon as one comes up. Otherwise they may start filling courses only to have people fail the medical and so not be able to start the job or lead to a delayed start date.

They originally asked if Monday was ok but I'm rostered to be off Thurs / Fri next week so asked if one of those days was available. :)

What about time and location, I saw on google maps the offices in central London near to the stage 1 testing, but someone at the stage 2 told me they do them at one of the depots?

Good luck btw :)

Had email today, confirming my medical pass and congratulating me on passing all stages of the process. I'm over the moon.

Anyway, just delighted my part in the application is now done...........let the waiting game begin !!! Best of luck to all of you, whatever stage you're at.

Well done! When did you have your medical? I was wondering how long it took them to notify you :)

Got my medical then :)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Question I know the initial training is at hornsey how many weeks are spent there?

Are you at your chosen depot much during the early stages of training or are you mainly at hornsey?

I am asking as I am relocating but not sure how important it is to be very near your chosen depot during the early weeks

Most is at Hornsey but you will be sent on footplate turns (ie shadowing a driver) over the first couple of months. This obviously requires shift work at your depot.

Hi, does anyone here know when they might be recruiting for trainees again, particularly on the southern side. I passed the assessment centre for Crossrail, but unfortunately fell just short on the DMI. I know where I fell down and would be able to improve on my answer the next time I get a shot at it. Any help or info would be great. Also would it be worth me just firing them an e-mail?? Thanks.
