it took 5 weeks for me to get a date for the DM interview, so be patient - it will happen. I had my stage 2 assessment on March 26th and the DM interview wasn't until April 27th! After I passed the DM interview, the medical was May 12th and start date isn't until June 1st.

Can I please ask if anyone knows if there will be further opportunities to apply, I have read in a rail mag that they are after 190 drivers in total this year. Since I've passed Stage 1 and 2 to an enhanced standard it would likely be just a DMI. I'm tempted to ask them directly but thought I'd ask here first.

with less than a week to go :P

Yes! I was starting to wonder. I got a call from the lady in HR today just after I opened the mail and she was surprised I hadn't received it sooner.

just waiting for the date first :)

That's what I did! I wanted to keep things fresh in my mind :p

Read all about the company, the Thameslink programme, which trains they are getting i.e Class 700s for the TL route and new class 377s to replace the class 319s on the GN route!

I think they were impressed when I knew the actual numbers they have on order! :D

Other stuff like who the CEO is, which stations they call at, where the depots are located etc.

Economist-

Keep checking the website twice a week. The last time there was a vacancy, I told a friend about it - it had only been up a day or two. He saw my message and then went to sit down and apply the next day and it had been taken down!

There are a lot of trainee drivers being taken on over the next two to three years. These are:

1: To fill a shortfall of drivers.
2: To cover the training of current drivers whilst they attend class 700 training, and on the Great Northern side, training for the class 313 replacements and class 377s, plus any extra routes required to be learnt.
3: To take account of increased services which will need more drivers.

On the Great Northern side this year, there are nine classes of eight trainees in progress, or planned for. This is in contrast to only three a couple of years ago. The Thameslink side also have more planned than previously. For the Great Northern side there have been extra instructors recruited for the classroom part of the training at Hornsey, and I daresay there have been on the Thameslink side as well.

There will be more drivers wanted over the next couple of years. It's a large program of recruitment and training. Now is a good time to look out for trainee driver vacancies at GTR.
If you live in London, or can get to London easily - there is Crossrail, which will require a large number of drivers as well.

Good luck.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply whoosh, I will make sure to apply the same day something becomes available, I do have a reasonably solid CV and out of the two TOCs I have applied for I have made it past the initial sift with both.

I do have recruitment alerts set up with pretty much all the London TOCs which take on trainees. Having applied to Crossrail, I should hopefully have a DM interview with them in the not too distant future.

Just got an email inviting me for assessment, so it seems they're finally processing the rest of the applications

Hello EazyGuy

When did you apply? just wondering as I put it off until the final day to ensure my application was the best I could make it, although it seems this was rather detrimental.

Will they be recruiting for Peterborough depot this year?

Why specifically Peterborough? Many kings cross and Hitchin drivers live up that way and manage to commute in. Peterborough tends to be filled internally with existing drivers for that reason but it depends how full it gets.

Like the guy from Bourne, I'm right on the hour commute to Bedford here in Spalding, Peterborough on the other hand is 20 minutes. If I got in at Bedford then I would relocate anyway though to bring the commute down.

Hi Darren

What date did you send yours off?

Wednesday 22/04 at 0103- guess I'll be right at the bottom of the pile! I remain optimistic though!

I sent mine off Tuesday am and haven't had anything, so I emailed GTR first thing today. I'll say one thing though, at least they reply to queries , and quickly too. Seems I'm still in the queue waiting. It's terribly frustrating when there are some who put there application in less than 24 hrs before me, who have been processed and have start dates and contracts and now there are some who put in their applications after me, who have been invited for assessments ?????? .

no one from this round of recruitment has start dates or contracts the most advanced anyone is currently is getting DMI dates.

Yeah sorry, my bad. I misunderstood the original post of this thread and read it that the OP was applying for the GTR position that he was illustrating. Didn't realise that he was already going through the process :)

Very unlikely. I am based there and in the last decade there have been just 4 trainee drivers recruited at Peterborough and all of them were towards the end of last year(i think)

Hi dr1323, I've applied for Bedford. Just waiting to hear back on a date for my DM interview. How far are you through the process?

I have my DMI today at 1330 in London! Getting nervous now. Those waiting for a start date, how long after the DMI does it take to find out if you passed or not? Also, do you know how much notice you'll be given to quit your existing jobs?
