I might have asked this already but who is it that has a "contact" in HR and do they know if course dates have been confirmed for this year and next now?

Those that are based at Bedford or should i say awaiting Bedford how long have you been waiting?

From speaking to a current Bedford trainee who started in late May (last course) i would presume a course is coming up due to the numbers required....through natural wastage, transfers etc....

nobody has a contact with HR you might be thinking it is me because another user mentioned I had spoken to somebody who in turn had spoken to HR?

Anyway I have finally resolved to continue my life without putting it on hold which I did for another company and just give it at least six months and see what happens

Ah I see I apologise for my assumption. I read the post stating someone had a contact in HR and my mind ran away with me thinking someone was in the know.

I'm sure GTR will contact us soon as I need to give 6 weeks notice and the average is 4....so beginning of Sept will be the time I'm "expecting" to hear but if not ill wait like everyone else. ??????

For all you know they have cancelled all courses for the rest of the year we just don't know at the moment. I find it hard to believe everyone will be on a course before the end of the year even if they were told that simply because of the huge numbers. I am glad I am not wanting bedford as it seems the vast majority are down for there.

What is infuriating is assessments have an expiry date of three years which I feel is a little unfair especially as the national validity is five years

For all you know they might put all the Bedford people on courses before the new year. End of the day it is what it is....a waiting game i've known former colleagues to wait up to 2 years to start so you have to be realistic with expectations of waiting.

But what I would be confident in knowing that if you've had your medical just hold that little longer as they have been known to run back to
back courses such as at Kings Cross and Three Bridges.

But what I would say ML is that a lot of people have been waiting longer than you have for a start date so maybe a bit of consideration when making a flippant comment around the subject.

If courses are full until October, I don't expect anyone will hear until the very end of this month/the beginning of next month

Plus if courses will be running into next year some of us won't hear anything for months yet. Just have to be patient.

Hi

I'm also researching this at the moment, though only tentatively as I am awaiting my DMI.

Is it worth starting another thread for this topic?

Just looked through my emails and found this message from gtr relating to start dates after medical:

'People do not generally wait too long for start dates'
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Hi

I may be based at Kings Cross depot and will be relocating to ensure I live within an hour.. I was thinking of Three Bridges which is an hour by train to St Pancras TL but then I would want to live very close to the station. Many Blackfriars drivers live that way but Kings Cross perhaps not so much

So for you people planning on being based or possibly based at Kings Cross where will you be living and how will you be getting to work?

I was thinking of Hitchin but unlike Three Bridges it does not appear to have a train service all through the night so it depends on shift times I guess

I also read Letchworth may open up as a training academy in addition to Hornsey. Is anyone planning to room share whilst at Hornsey/Letchworth or wherever we are based during the classroom stages? They do not put you up which is understandable but from some depots it could be a tiring commute so I am considering a cheap room share cheap being sarcastic as nowhere that way is cheap haha

Three Bridges would be my ideal depot for which I am under consideration for but that is a way off and would rather get in ASAP

I currently live down south my nearest depot being Three Bridges where are other people relocating from or planning to move to?

Guys, we seem to go from one extreme to the other on here.

Stop listening to other peoples predictions, and worry about the facts.

The facts in my case are that, having passed all necessary assessments, interviews and medical, I received an email saying to rest assured when a course becomes available, I'll be placed on it. And that realistically they are looking at October ONWARDS

Nobody has said definitely October. Nobody has said courses are cancelled. Everybody needs to calm down a bit.

These things take time. You've all had your own individual dealings with HR, and that's all you need worry about, not the words of strangers on an internet forum.

Yes, I still check the postbox and emails everyday, but I'm not getting concerned about it yet

I think its been mentioned throughout every post for every TOC....its a waiting game...... im like everyone else, im excited to get my start date hence asking on these forums but i have to waiti it out.

I also agree with ML about the expiry dates of assesments etc but i can also see it from a company point of view

Fair comment point taken

I have been too obsessed with becoming a train driver this past year

Really? I hadn't noticed! ;)

As Bucko says just wait, it takes time.

The thing is; asking on the forums and daily looking to see others get an offer does not help those who do not so the only way to get an answer that directly concerns yourself is to contact the TOC and ask them.

If it's encouraging for those waiting then I will say that with the amount of cancelations during Friday's evening peak and judging by this weeks sheets full of 'uncovered duty' they are still desperate for new drivers so they won't forget about you!

The Three Bridges trainee driver job is still available via the direct url (it's just no longer displaying on the GTR careers page) and I'm sure they've extended the closing date from 19th August to 23rd August!

I submitted my application in over a week ago and the wait is killing me!

That is encouraging, thanks for the information! Are you a driver with GTR?

There are far worse jobs. I have issues since the franchise changes as things are certainly changing for the worse but I think it's a good job.

Good good! I'll be coming in with no prior knowledge so hopefully it'll be a fresh start for me. I'm sure once things settle down it will get better for you (hopefully).

I applied for Three Bridges the day the job was advertised, got the rejection email the day after applications closed. Given how quick I was rejected, I assume I failed on word count/key words screening.

If you haven't heard back yet that's probably a good thing.

Have you guys heard yet ?

I've still not heard anything yet. I noticed that the closing date kept being extended, with it finally closing on 6th Sept - I'm not sure if that makes any difference. I saw a few people on another thread had heard back and had been given assessment dates already.

The other that have assessments on the other thread may be much earlier applicants, as that thread would have seen more action on it in my opinion. They actually closed the new applications on 11/08 but persons that had applications started could still apply
