Am I right in thinking GTR now only issue one design of their 'Key' smartcard...

...the above orange/yellow and white design?

In times past GTR did issue different 'Key' smartcard designs for the Southern, Thameslink and Great Northern brands.

Yes, that's right. The change was made quite a few years ago now but I don't remember exactly when.

Time flies... from hunting around a bit on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, the (not so) 'new' design seems to have appeared on the Southern website sometime between the later months of 2018 (old Southern-specific design here dated Oct '18) and the earlier months of 2019 (new design here dated April '19), albeit not necessarily consistently (the old design features on this page in April '19).

Not of course that it really matters much!

Besides, I'd guess that eventually the TOCs various smartcards may end up being consolidated under GBR, though this might not be the easiest of tasks. And once GTR loses it's G - i.e. when the TLGN TOC comes under public ownership and is no longer part of Govia - what might become of KeyGo acceptance on Go-Ahead's B&H Buses and Metrobus is another question. Likewise the future of TOC specific keyGo, SWR's tap2go and GWR's Bristol area and Cornwall PAYG smartcard schemes would need to be worked out.`
