On Saturday 4th Feb. 2017 I was in Sydenham, south east London and wanted to get home to Ashford, Kent. I opted to travel from Catford to Sevenoaks, changing there for a train to Ashford.
The plan was to catch the 17:33 at Catford which was due to arrive at Sevenoaks at 18:13, walk across the platform and catch the 18:14 to Ashford.
The train arrived at Catford 30-45 seconds late and arrived at Sevenoaks four minutes late and I therefore missed my connection.
So I caught the next train from Sevenoaks to Tonbridge, the 18:21 I think, to make use of the café and waiting room there and then caught the 18:53 from Tonbridge to Ashford arriving at 19:30.
The first DR claim I submitted clearly stated the journey, the expected departure time, change time and arrival time but GTR rejected this on the basis that the delay was less than 15 minutes.
I resubmitted the claim restating that I arrived 30 minutes later than planned at Ashford due to their late running. Their latest rejection email arrived at 21:29 on Monday evening and reads as follows :
"Journey Details
4 February 2017
Catford to Ashford International at 17:33
Decision: Declined
Having checked our records for the details of the delay you provided to us, our systems show that there was no delay, which is below the minimum threshold for which you are entitled to Delay Repay compensation. We used the following information to calculate your delay: The intended leg from 17:33 CATFORD left 1 minute late, scheduled to arrive at SEVENOAKS at 18:13, arrived 4 minutes late. The intended leg from 18:14 SEVENOAKS, scheduled to arrive at ASHFORD INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 could not be taken because a late arriving train caused a missed connection. The alternative leg from 18:44 SEVENOAKS left 1 minute early, scheduled to arrive at ASHFORD INTERNATIONAL at 19:30, arrived on time. Total journey delay: No delay."
They seem to understand that I missed my connection because their train was late but refuse to accept I was delayed!
What am I missing here (Other than that connection)? Should I submit a third claim or just give up?
Thanks in advance,
Simon
